LGBTQ+ History Month is a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and a time for people to make an active effort to learn about LGBTQ+ history, but it's also a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality and acceptance people are facing. To us, being an ally means standing in solidarity with our peers and working towards a world where everyone can live authentically and without fear of discrimination.
It's clear to see that LGBTQ+ individuals often lack representation and visibility in mainstream media and society. If you haven't done so yet, for LGBTQ+ History Month make an extra effort to consider how inclusive your marketing activity is, and seek out ways of amplifying the voices and stories of LGBTQ+ individuals, and making sure that their perspectives and experiences are included in your activity.
One of the most important things you can do to become an ally is to educate yourself about LGBTQ+ issues and experiences, and be open to learning and growing. This includes learning about the different identities and experiences of LGBTQ+ people, as well as understanding the unique challenges and discrimination that different groups within the community may face.
Being an ally means advocating for laws and policies that protect the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, and also taking steps to address the discrimination and prejudice that exists in your own community.
Take some time to consider today, how you can stand in solidarity with LGBTQ+ individuals, advocate for their rights and visibility, and what you will do to begin educating yourself and your team.
